TOMATO
SOLANUM LYCOPERSICUM
LYCOPERSICUM ESCULENTUM

Know your food—milk comes from a cow not the supermarket and the farmer today injects his cows with bovine hormone to increase size and production—gone are the days of sanity, replaced by an artificial thing called inflation, seeding of the skies with toxic metals, monitoring peoples privacy, making packaging more important than the content-----what the hell happened in the last 40 years.Wake up and smell the rot.

Raw Tomatoes eaten regularly may prevent many cancers if your genetic makeup or environment indicates that possibility.
Cancers including those of the digestive system, kidney and pancreas have shown remarkable results. Suggestions from Australia cite tomato sauce as the most effective form of lycopene in cases of prostate cancer.

Lycopene, an extraordinary anti oxidant is the most active constituent of tomatoes that has that effect
Tomato paste has a much higher Lycopene content and is often used. Cooking tomato has a greater effect than the raw fruit because the lycopene is liberated from the cells, and mixing with olive oil increases the protective effect

The healing effects on adult asthma, sinusitis and emphysema in smokers have been noted in human studies.

Large Agri business have profit in mind—health to the public that they supply is not an issue. Vegetables grown in chemicals has become the norm: fruits sprayed and treated to look pretty are on the shelves—none of these selected fancy packaged foods have the soul or resemble the taste and ingredients of the classic foods that were grow in soil.
Even today the soil is so treated with chemicals just to get a crop out of the debilitated overused ground..

Organic is a mindset, a way of life that may maintain health in the long term. Growing at home is worth chopping up the lawn and replacing it with a veg patch. Tomato growing is easier than ironing.

Tomatoes are a rich source of lycopene, beta-carotene, potassium, vitamin C, flavonoids, folate and vitamin E that may provide protection against the development of type 2 diabetes.

An experiment for 8 weeks with 200gm of raw tomato per day yielded results that show that tomato balances blood pressure, reduces platelet formation thus decreasing the risk of thrombosis, abnormal blood clotting and in the same vein reduced the risk of heart attack.
The high potassium content of tomatoes may be one of the reasons high blood pressure is lowered.

Tomato balances the blood system by lowering serum cholesterol, an increase of HDL (good cholesterol) and lowering of LDL (low density lipids) contributes to the healing effect of tomatoes on the cardiovascular system.

Perhaps the strangest effect of lycopene is to increase resistance to skin damaging sun radiation. The effect is long term and appears after 10 weeks of 40gm of tomato paste per day.
Regular tomato eating reputedly restores skin health.

The use of tomato paste in psoriasis is not mainstream treatment but research in Italy has shows promising results.
Rub tomato slices directly into your clean skin, concentrating on areas infested with blockheads. Tomatoes contain vitamin C, which has healing powers, and an acid that removes dead skin and unplugs pores, making skin soft and radiant and restoring the skin ph.using thins slices as a mask leaves your face glossy and smooth.

If you travel in the east and find yourself beset with diarrheoa, eats tomatoes to alleviate that.

When the liver is right you feel merry and bright,
When the liver is low you feel sluggish and slow
How’s life? It depends on the liver.

Chlorine and sulphur are natural detoxifiers found in tomatoes which restore the health of the liver and removing toxic heavy metals and protecting the liver from cirrhosis.

Maybe a tomato a day is a good mainstay.

When dealing with a breakdown in one aspect of the body health, it may be wise to treat the whole system rather than focus on a single organ or system. In this way mixtures of herbs may work more effectively than a single herb—some helping with elimination and detoxing. Our mixtures contain herbs, which do all that and fortify the mineral and vitamin supply hence providing a more complete healing process with no side effects.

The process of cutting a herb generates heat so the finer the cut of the herb so too does the potency diminish that little bit. So I recommend the rough tea cut rather than teabags even though it appears to be a mission to make in the rush rush everyday world.

Guidance with professional health practitioners from the naturopath, sangoma, dietician, alternative healer to a MD is an responsible course of action when dealing with any substance affecting your health.

IN MOST CASES WE REFER TO DRIED HERB WHEN ADVOCATING AMOUNTS IN TEASPOON FOR TEAS .

DOUBLE THE AMOUNT WHEN USING FRESH HERB.

In the next newsletter we will deal with GINKO BILOBA in the series called Streetwise - talking about medicinal properties of herbs found growing in the streets, garden and the wild.

ENDOCRINE GLANDS AND HORMONES PT 3---Ovaries and Testes

The ovaries are 2 ductless glands on either side of the uterus. The ovaries release hormones in response to other hormones from the pituitary gland in the brain.

Estrogens and progesterone are the most important hormones produced by the ovaries.
Together they prepare the female body for pregnancy.
In a female we see estrogen helps with such things as development of the breasts, widening of the hips, and the growth of body hair.
If fertilization occurs, progesterone maintains the Uterus throughout Pregnancy and prevents the further manufacture and release of eggs from the Ovaries.
Progesterone may increase female Sexual Desire.

Sexual Steroid Hormones are manufactured in the Ovaries in response to messages from the pituitary.
At puberty, hormones(Gonadotrophic Hormones} from the pituitary brings about the cyclical processes in females.

Androsterone is manufactured in very small quantities by the Ovaries.
Small (but biologically significant) quantities of Testosterone are manufactured by the Ovaries up until Menopause - this Ovary manufactured Testosterone contributes to female Sexual Desire - after Menopause approximately 35% of females have reduced Sexual Desire due to the cessation of Testosterone production by the Ovaries (the other 65% manufacture enough Testosterone in their Adrenal Glands to sustain their Sexual Desire).

THE TESTES

The Testes are responsible for the production of a large proporotion of Androgens in males: Synthetically produced androgens are known as anabolic steroids.(those drugs that athletes use for vim vigor and skeletal growth)

The testes are externally placed because it needs a lower temperture to function optimally.

The cells inside the Testes (Leydig’s cells) are responsible for manufacturing almost the entire Testosterone - the main Androgen hormone.

Testosterone maintains sexual drive and is responsible for the production of Sperm, maintaining muscle strength and mass and Promoting healthy bone density
Testosterone contributes to the growth of the penis as well as body hair and deepens the voice at a certain age.
Other androgen sexual steroid hormones produced in the testes are Androsterone and Androstenedione .
Androsterone is said to be excreted via the pirspiration and may stimulate female sexual drive.
Androsterone is found naturally in Celery.

The Testes are responsible for the production of a small amount of Estrogens and progesterone in males.

The hypothalamus and pituitary gland control how much testosterone the testes produce and secrete.

The hypothalamus sends a signal to the pituitary gland to release gonadotrophic substances (luteinizing hormone). Luteinizing hormone (LH) stimulates testosterone production. If too much testosterone is produced, the hypothalamus alerts the pituitary gland to make less LH, which tells the testes to decrease testosterone level.
