An overview of different herbal realities focusing on the medicinal value of plants, indigenous herbs of South Africa

Since time does not allow most of us to read long newsletters, this newsletter will only deal with one herb at a time starting with the series kitchenwise and streetwise.

What is becoming more noticable is the gradual appearance of mosquitos and Hadida birds in new areas of South Africa. Some like the noise of those invasive birds and to date have never heard of someone liking mosquitos.The oil of Lemon Grass , Citronella, may help to keep the mosqitoes at bay due to the potency of Citral an active ingredient in lemon grass, usually applied topically as an oil .

Traditional herbalists have used lemon grass for headaches---there may be some scientific evidence for this as it activates the release of serotonin.
Hence the use of lemon grass to sedate the central nervous system and its use in stress, calming and soothing has validity.

Since man has transferred  allegence to google and its tentacles, the way is made clear for huge amounts of information to be available at the push of a button.
The google revolution has changed much, yet the antifungal abilities of lemon grass oil affects Candida much as it did before the google era (BGE)
Candida and othe fungi may be killed due to the volotile oils Citronellal and Citronellol and its effect on worms in the gastro intestinal tract may be due to those oils so one could take it as a tea for nematodes.

The flight of birds , sounds of the winds in the trees and silence have no more apeal for the generations, and the mostly drivel sprouted by the media and politicians still keep the masses entertained much as did the perverted games in ancient Rome and Greece.

The effect of Lemon Grass on the digestive system by alleviating flatulence, stomach pain and diarrhea are anecdotal but it  has worked for centuries so no reason it should not work in the current  times even though the atmosphere is polluted by pesticides and electronic frequency polution.

As a tea the dried or fresh leaves steeped in water make a refreshing drink which has no side effects And is also called fever tea because of its cooling effect on fevers.
The lemongrass oils may also affect colds and flu . although no current scientific evidence supports that, anecdotal evidence indicates that.
Massage therapists add lemon grass to their oils to help backache, sciata, sprains, rheumatism and tendonitis. 

 

Recent research has strongly indicated the extra ordinary usefulness of  lemongrass for cancer. It acts as chemotherapy and kills the cancer cells especially in breast cancer. Research on brain cancer has indicated very positive results from small dosages.
Current research indicates that active polysaccharides in the lemongrass may turn on genes that supress cancer cells so much hope may reside in this hunble herb.
Members of the medical profession are recommending lemongrass tea before going for chemo and it is suggested that with further research lemongrass may even repace chemotherapy because of its ability to kill cancer cells with very little  side effects.
Some doctors are recommending as much as 8 glasses of tea per day.
The anti infalmmatory properties of lemon grass are yet to be researched.
A medical professional should be consulted with usage as side effects may include dry mouth, increased urination, dizziness and an increase in the appetite.

When dealing with a breakdown in one aspect of the body health, it may be wise to treat the whole system rather than focus on a single organ or system. In this way mixtures of herbs may work more effectively than a single herb—some helping with elimination and detoxing.Our mixtures contain herbs, which do all that and fortify the mineral and vitamin supply hence providing a more complete healing process with no side effects.

The process of cutting a herb generates heat so the finer the cut of the herb so too does the potency diminish that little bit. So I recommend the rough tea cut rather than teabags even though it appears to be a mission to make in the rush rush everyday world.

So treat the herbs with the respect due to a great natural force, never mind the ravings of a semi lunatic political, media force doing their best to undermine common sense.

Self Help For Sleep Apnea

 

Extensive research has been done in the use of exercise for sleep related problems such as apnea and snoring. Since apnea is so dangerous it would be well to consult with your unbiased medical practitioner.
To find such a person unaffected by the pressures of seeing patients and the patients wanting a quick cure and on the other hand the medical pharmacy corps of which the reps are the foot soldiers is a task worthwhile.
The exercises have proved very helpful as a treatment in cases of mild to moderate apnea, i e Patients with Obstructive sleep apnea (apnea hypopnea index 5-30 events/hour together with at least two symptoms of OSA :(snoring, fragmented sleep, witnessed apneas, morning headache and daytime sleepiness.
Yet it requires continual vigilance and commitment to doing the exercises to see the results. Practicing the exercises regularly at home by a rate of three to five times per day with minimum 10 minutes for each set.

Remember it has taken you some time, maybe many years to develop your dis-ease to the point of going to see the medical person so keep in mind that your are part of the cure and reliance on the doctor is a walking stick to continuity of health. It will take time to heal what years have spoilt.

Some anecdotal methods of relieving sleep apnea can be tried but with the permission of your medical practitioner
a. one teaspoon pepper to one teaspoon honey in hot water--drink while still hot.
b.3 teaspoons cumin in hot water
c.eating onions
d.eating walnuts
e.Have a banana before going to bed/

The main purpose of carrying out Exercises for Obstructive Sleep Apnea is to build and strengthen the muscles located around the airway. Through doing this, the airway is a lot less likely to completely collapse and become blocked off during sleep.

It is easier for those who just want the gist so with each set of exercises related to the airways we will put a link to the exercises and if you are interested you can go there either now or in 39 years when you may develop apnea or your bed partner has had enough of your sleep disturbing patterns.

Exercises for the tongue and face : If the tongue becomes weak it can drop into the throat. The exercises increase muscle tone thereby decreasing extent of its collapse and in turn improving the airway.

Exercises for the soft palate: Those muscles located around the base of the tongue relax during sleep. A weak soft palate can flap around and its tip can fall down onto the tongue. The soft palate exercises will lift the soft palate up. The exercises will offer tone and strength to the soft palate.

Exercises for the neck and throat: Weakened throat muscles can collapse during sleep, causing the airway to become blocked. Throat exercises help to build, tone and strengthen the throat muscles. The exercises also open the throat up more to prevent it closing upon sleep

 

The real issue seems to be the Breathing Habits that have been allowed to happen during your years of breathing. The carbon dioxide level in the blood is a fixed system, which regulates the breathing. Normal breath is through the nose, quiet and regular and about 12 times per minute.
Anything else on a regular basis will move the fixed carbon dioxide point and cause breathing abnormalities, which you will carry into your sleeping activities.
We see this kind of  movement constantly in our daily lives.
E.g. Politicians, probably bribed, bought and seduced by any means by sweet talking ugly hearted big business harangue the opposition (usually the people who voted for them) and media and ultimately the fixed norm moves and the rot starts except that is on a global or national scale and when fear threatens in on place it threatens everywhere.


So Breathing is always the first consideration—Bad habits need changing and it is not so easy until you begin. In her clear, really good book on the subject of breath retraining Relief from Snoring and Sleep Apnoea, Tess Graham, the author, takes you though a series of simple self examination and offers new habits for normal breathing. You may be shocked if you are an apnoeac to see how your so-called normal breathing deviates from real norm.

Indeed we should all be shocked when we perceive with clear eyes the way perceived normal reality has deviated from actual norm. From joy, love and compassion in a society our societies have deviated to where the norm becomes Lies, corruption, deceit and hatred.

A simple example is fracking, which has been banned in many states in the USA and Europe being really bad for the environment, is being embraced in South Africa and not out of a sense of responsibility to the peoples of the nation.
