Since time does not allow most of us to read long newsletters, this newsletter will only deal with one herb at a time starting with the series kitchenwise and streetwise.

Stevia also lowers insulin resistance in diabetics so it has a dual positive effect. If already on an anti diabetic drug excess usage of Stevia can result in a serious drop in blood sugar levels with effects such as nausea and dizziness. The effects are not long lasting but if they occur then consultation with your health practitioner as to the best strategy for taking sweeteners which also lower blood sugar.
The active ingredient in the Stevia leaf is Stevioside, which also functions as an anti hypertensive. Independent research in Brazil has defined Stevia for lowering blood pressure. The effect needs to be monitored since it can add to the effect of medication for high blood pressure so if you chose to use Stevia as a sweetener and are on anti hypertensives, consult with your health practitioner.
Of course if you consider the news of the Dalai Lama being refused a visa to South Africa for the Nobel peace conference, the most hardened blood system may well show some reaction and the effect of Stevia needed. Kissing the butt of Chinese politicians to prevent the spiritual head of Tibetan Buddhists – a major Light worker, from attending may say that the South African government supports the dark forces and that this so called democracy (is it really or is that too a lie?) inclines towards non- productive action; thus creating an environment of discord
Notwithstanding the mild side effects, the use of a natural sweetener such as stevia has so many advantages compared to the synthetics such as aspartame. Stevia is about 200-300 times sweeter than sugar. Very small amounts are effective and the total safe daily amount is up to 1200mg.A match head dose is sufficient to sweeten a cup of tea.
As an Appetite Suppressor half a cup of Stevia tea before meals may help and so has a place amongst the very many slimming aids.
Stevia is easily grown both indoors and outdoors and the use of a fresh leaf gives a really nice flavour. Some people do not like the taste of the refined commercial product, which is different to the taste of the natural fresh or dried herb. The whole leaf powder is commercially available as are refined liquid products at health shops and some pharmacies.
Any small attempt at producing your own home product including sweetener, vegetables, preserves, herbs and clothing is a step toward becoming more independent of the profit orientated corporations who decide what people should be led to eat and wear through massive public relations and advertising, usually ignoring health issues in favour of profit.
Sugar and Stevia have opposite effects on teeth—sugar causes plaque and tooth decay whereas Stevia inhibits tooth decay and plaque. In Japan, Stevia makes up at least 40% of the sweetening market.
Conscious dentists in high sugar consuming countries could take the lead in promoting natural sweeteners hence actually affecting the general health of entire countries.
Stevia is contraindicated if you have an existing allergy to chrysanthemums, marigolds, ragweed or daisies. Those that develop an allergic reaction to Stevia may see difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath, hives, dizziness, pale skin, wheezing or weakness. If you develop these symptoms after consuming Stevia you should seek emergency medical treatment immediately to prevent potentially fatal complications. Research on the effect of Stevia for those who are pregnant or breast feeding is unknown and maybe better to err on the side of caution and do not use.
When dealing with a breakdown in one aspect of the body health, it may be wise to treat the whole system rather than focus on a single organ or system. In this way mixtures of herbs may work more effectively than a single herb—some helping with elimination and detoxing.Our mixtures contain herbs, which do all that and fortify the mineral and vitamin supply hence providing a more complete healing process with no side effects.
The process of cutting a herb generates heat so the finer the cut of the herb so too does the potency diminish that little bit. So I recommend the rough tea cut rather than teabags even though it appears to be a mission to make in the rush rush everyday world.

Oxidation is essential for human life. It is the normal physiological process that produces energy in the body. The energy production process is slightly (2% - 5%) inefficient, which allows some harmful molecules called Free Radicals to break away.
Free radicals are unstable and when in excess scavenge the body, damaging cells, protein and DNA (genetic material) causing destructive chain reactions in the cell and body.
It is the same oxidative process that causes oil to become rancid, peeled apples to turn brown and iron to rust. Free radicals containing oxygen are the most biologically significant called Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS)—causing aging, blood problems, heart disease, mental hassles, cancer, skin and rheumatoid arthritis and cataracts. Free radicals are generated internally) by inflammation and metabolism and from external factors such as pollution, sunlight, strenuous exercises, radiation, smoking and alcohol.
When these factors are increased a situation called oxidative stress occurs and the body defence system, which counters the free radicals, cannot cope. And likely the same process that urges greedy, greasy slob people to steal public money and then get away with it except we call it corruption and unaccountability as seen in parliament and those related to parliamentarians. It’s a similar natural process endemic to a certain type which we call politician and even more despicable since there are actually idiots who vote for that
The parliamentary free radical uses committees and subcommittees and bull to cover its presence while continuing to operate. The defence system here is the public protector and the rulers of our dictatorship continue trying to get rid of that defensive system
The body’s natural defence system consists of Antioxidants, these substances including enzymes, vitamins and minerals counteract the damaging effects of oxidation in animal tissue—so an antioxidant is a molecule that prevents another molecule from oxidizing. The function of the antioxidant systems is not to remove oxidants (Free Radicals) entirely but to keep them at an optimal level as (Free Radicals) also have some useful cellular functions. Antioxidants are fat or water-soluble.
Water soluble Antioxidants react with oxidants in the cell and blood plasma and fat soluble Antioxidants protect cell membrane.
Some important naturally occurring water soluble antioxidants are Uric acid which is very plentiful in the body and Vitamin c which is not produced by the body. Glutathione is also manufactured in the body.
Antioxidants occuring naturally in the body.
Fat-soluble Antioxidants produced by the body are Vitamin E and Co enzyme Q.
Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant produced in the body----At one stage it was freely available over the counter but like paranoid Australians the South African authorities have banned its availability and is only via a doctor. I am guessing those who were responsible for the banning in South Africa cannot pronounce and even less do not have a clue as to the usage of Melatonin. The benefit of anti oxidants is that they seem to prevent and even reverse many kinds of cancer and heart disease
The best way to get anti oxidants into your body is to eat them in raw fruit and veg and some beans and grains and herbs..
Anti oxidant supplements do not appear to increase life expectancy in humans and whether they are beneficial is still a debatable issue.
Common antioxidant rich foods
Beer (surprisingly) exerts Antioxidant effects (Polyphenols in Beer increase the body’s levels of endogenous Antioxidant enzymes
Wine (especially Red Wine) contains numerous substances (e.g. Resveratrol and Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPCs)) with Antioxidant properties
Propolis possesses Antioxidant properties (due to its Polyphenols content
Most Fruits contain high levels of Antioxidants. The ORAC rating for various Fruits are:
Grapefruit (pink): 483
Kiwi Fruit: 602
Garlic possesses Antioxidant properties (due to the various Sulfuric Compounds in Garlic).
Green Veg - Kale Brocolli Spinach Watercress Grasses
Barley Grass functions as an Antioxidant (due to Chlorophyll).
Wheat Grass contains the Antioxidant, Chlorophyll.
There are many more and have only mentioned those easily available

Astragalus possesses Antioxidant properties.

Ginkgo biloba contains Ginkgolides which possess Antioxidant properties.
Hawthorn possesses Antioxidant properties (due to its Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins (OPCs) content).
Holy Basil possesses Antioxidant properties.
Korean Ginseng possesses Antioxidant properties.
Licorice possesses Antioxidant properties (primarily due to the Glycyrrhizin content of Licorice).
Milk Thistle contains the Antioxidant, Silymarin.
Olive Leaf (extract) possesses Antioxidant properties.
Oregano possesses Antioxidant properties (primarily due to its Rosmarinic Acid content).
Reishi Mushrooms contain the Antioxidant, Ganoderic Acid.
Rosemary contains numerous Antioxidants, including Carnosol, Epirosmanol, Isorosmanol, Rosmaridiphenol and Ursolic Acid.
Saffron possesses Antioxidant properties (due to the Crocetin and Crocin content of Saffron).
Saint John's Wort possesses Antioxidant properties.
Green Tea contains Gallocatechins and Polyphenols that possess potent Antioxidant properties - twenty times stronger than Vitamin E and four times stronger than BHA.-that is if you can get decent green tea—currently I suspect that the only green tea worth drinking is supplied by Gaia Organics
Schizandra contains Schisandrins which are potent Antioxidants.
Self-Heal possesses Antioxidant properties (due to the high Rosmarinic Acid content of Self-Heal).
Siberian Ginseng possesses Antioxidant properties.
