SING FEFUR NEWSLETTER NO 53

wishes for a healthy and blessed new year

An overview of different herbal realities focusing on the medicinal value of plants, indigenous herbs of South Africa
and aspects of the herbal industry that affect the person in the street.
Since time does not allow most of us to read long newsletters, this newsletter will only deal with one herb at a time starting with the series kitchenwise and streetwise.

CONTENTS OF NEWSLETTER NO 53 January 2016

• Kitchen-wise-Medicinal herbs and spices in the kitchen
• Hormones pt 6: Pineal Gland - a short overview
CARDAMOM
Elettaria Cardamomum

It is years past December 2012 and the Mayan calendar (at least the one
the internet was continually referring to ) is out of date and print.
So philosophy and Hype comes and goes and herbs and spices remain
usually almost unnoticed.

Cardamom is one of those spices that is seldom
used medicinally in the West . It is related to ginger and is used for
many digestive discomforts.

Traditionally, i.e. in Indian and Chinese medicine, cardamom has been used as a
remedy for nausea and vomiting.
The volatile oil in cardamom has been proven to soothe the stomach and
intestines, making cardamom an ideal solution for constipation,
dysentery, and indigestion. Cardamom can encourage appetite, and also
assists in soothing gas and heartburn. Generally, cardamom relieves
most upset stomachs.

To use Cardamom for digestive problems, consume
seeds alone, serve ground seed with food, or serve as a tea especially
when reading newspapers which report the usual nauseating indigestible
negative gunk. One would imagine that after years of publishing, an
improvement would have occurred.

If you can digest the info which reports as news , you are likely not
needing any cardamom although you may find its beneficial effects on stress
levels and increased blood flow useful.

For those with a floss fetish chew a few cardamom seeds--they contain
the same volatile oils as used in commercial mouthwashes. and may even
reduce plaque as an added extra n/c.

Most of the information about cardamom is restricted to Ayervedic
practitioners – the research has been done main in India and Syria and is nowhere near
being complete. The results have been very promising and as an anti
inflammatory in cases of rheumatic pain and sore joints, use of the oil
has been beneficial.

Cardamom possesses aphrodisiac properties and is also used as a cure
for impotency, erectile dysfunction, and premature ejaculation.-- for
the application an ayervedic practitioner is suggested. and the same
with the beneficial effects on urinary tract infections such as
cystitis, nephritis, and gonorrhoea.

If you are willing to experiment, a tea of the seed may surprise you and
even chewing some seeds may have a desired effect i have heard that it
may be taken with milk and saffron yet that needs an experienced guide to
inform.

Traditional remedies are strongly rooted in certain cultures and those
living alongside them may never have considered such practices, as they
may seem too simple--for example for vascular and heart health, chewing a few
seeds a day may be most beneficial mainly because of the well stocked
source of micronutients such as manganese, potassium, iron and
magnesium.Manganese is a co-factor for the enzyme, superoxide dismutase, a very
powerful free-radical scavenger

Why some people react to herbs quicker than others is not such a
mystery, just difficult for the herbalist when the ill person complains
that the herb does not work. I expect it has to do with the art of
blending herbs to work together to effect a physiological change
whereas one single herb may be limited in its range of action and
sensitivity of the being.

An alternative therapy for Colorectal cancer is apparently the use of
cardomom which has been researched in india and does not have the side
effects of conventional therapy--when it comes to cancer it is helpful
to have or cultivate a positive belief system rotating around
alternative cures.

For hiccups and sore throat , boil a few pods of Cardamom and gargle
for the sore throat.
For the hiccups drink the mixture.
You could add a bit of cinnamon to the mixture

When dealing with a breakdown in one aspect of the body health, it may be wise to treat the whole system rather than focus on a single organ or system. In this way mixtures of herbs may work more effectively than a single herb—some helping with elimination and detoxing. Our mixtures contain herbs, which do all that and fortify the mineral and vitamin supply hence providing a more complete healing process with no side effects.

The process of cutting a herb generates heat so the finer the cut of the herb so too does the potency diminish that little bit. So I recommend the rough tea cut rather than teabags even though it appears to be a mission to make in the rush rush everyday world.

Guidance with professional health practitioners from the naturopath, sangoma, dietician, alternative healer to a MD is an responsible course of action when dealing with any substance affecting your health.

IN MOST CASES WE REFER TO DRIED HERB WHEN ADVOCATING AMOUNTS IN TEASPOON FOR TEAS .

DOUBLE THE AMOUNT WHEN USING FRESH HERB.

In the next newsletter we will deal with GINKO BILOBA in the series called Streetwise - talking about medicinal properties of herbs found growing in the streets, garden and the wild.

Endocrine glands part 6---PINEAL GLAND

Deep in the brain is a mysterious pea shaped gland----the Pineal The Pineal regulates the entire body’s hormone balance and has been called the master gland.

Found only in the Pineal gland, pinealoctyes are unique secretory cells that produce and secrete the hormone melatonin.
In the absence of light the neurotransmitter norepinephrine (noradrenalin, produced by the adrenals which is essential in the production of melatonin) stimulate pinealocytes in pineal gland to produce and release melatonin. The production is controlled by the hypothalamus through a feedback mechanism.

Melatonin affects the body’s circadian (daily) rhythms e.g. waking and sleeping. It functions as the biological clock, which causes you to awake without an alarm clock.
Melatonin is also associated with relaxation and visualization.. Taken for jet lag, it reduces the effect of travelling
across several time zones, which disrupts the normal biological clock.
Melatonin regulates the onset of puberty in females, and helps protect the body from cell damage caused by free radicals.

The political overseers of the medical world have banned melatonin, which was available over the counter
at health shops.
Most political organizations are inept and kiss bum to their superiors who are in most cases really pathetic psychopaths and would like nothing more than a world inhabited by retards to maintain their greed for power.
Fluoride decreases melanin content in the Pineal---and if i were a conspiracy theorist i would consider that an attempt to influence unnatural disaster by adding fluroide to the water supply--why ban the good and hold onto the damaging substances unless.......................

As we continue in the cycle of junk food, environmental pollution of all sorts and aging, the pineal calcifies and decreased melatonin ensues and may be reversed by detoxing and maybe adding some melanin friendly foods.

The pineal is known esoterically as the third eye and is said to impart many beneficial spiritual properties supposedly
activated through meditation and some yogas.

Non-invasive and gentle ways are the intent of nature and the right to self-treatment is empowering.

So what’s part of the balance in a society with chemical and pesticide rich food? You can go organic, plant your own, join an organic co op.
